August 2018: Lisa Burling, Managing Director of award-winning PR consultancy LBPR has been selected as a national finalist for the 2018 AusMumpreneur Awards in the hotly contested “Rising Star” category, which recognises exceptional first-time business owners who have been in business for 2 – 5 years.
The AusMumpreneur Awards presented by The AusMumpreneur Network celebrate Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to applaud the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
Lisa started her business four years ago when her second son was born prematurely and she became a single mum to two young boys overnight. LBPR and Lisa have gone onto win awards in the Illawarra business community, and nationally with the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
Lisa comments: “Being selected as a finalist for my entrepreneurial endeavors at the national level, means so much to me because it says I can hold my own when pitted against other mums around Australia kicking goals professionally, while raising a family. The fact the category is “Rising Star” means my work as an entrepreneur is only just getting started – there’s plenty more to come.”
It can be challenging to run a successful business whilst raising a family, especially as a single parent. Lisa gives this advice for others thinking about starting their own enterprise. ”There are no ideal conditions to set up a business so just do it. My motto is fortune favours the brave and I will always choose to have a go, rather than regret not even trying. Anyone in the ring, doing their thing, deserves to be applauded.”
